Bangkok (June 6, 2019) – Singha Estate launched its campaign “SeaYouTomorrow: The Future of the Ocean is in your hands”. The campaign marks World Oceans Day and is aimed at raising public awareness on preserving the environment as it continues to support the public sector and other partner organizations. Recently, Singha Estate has collaborated with National Geographic Thailand to organize a photography contest for World Oceans Day 2019 alongside “S talks – Future of our oceans in 10 years” a series of discussions attended by marine specialists and environmental activists.
Mr. Naris Cheyklin, Chief Executive Officer of Singha Estate PLC (S), remarked “Singha Estate’s sustainable development philosophy is to keep the ecosystem balanced and foster sustainability of the communities we are part of as well as to provide great benefits to all stakeholders involved in our projects. The company has taken part in the “Pracharat” project, which pioneered the restoration of an environmental balance in Hat Noppharat Thara - Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park with an eye to rehabilitating the fragile marine ecosystem.
In addition, Singha Estate has provided support to the “Phi Phi Model”, a national park management approach modeled on IUCN’s nature-based solutions. Singha Estate’s contributions to the Phi Phi model included providing mooring buoys, patrol boats for park officers as well as donating super coral fragments to the park. Moreover, the company supported Kasetsart University to monitor and restore the coral reefs in Hat Noppharat Thara - Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park with drone-enabled aerial photography. Research showed that the intervention has brought the coral at Yung Island during one year (May 2018-April 2019) to expand significantly. Singha Estate also founded the Marine Discovery Centre (MDC) in Phi Phi Island Village Beach Resort with the aim to provide knowledge on marine ecosystem and diversity. The Marine Discovery Centre is open to the public with no admission fees.”
Mr. Naris added “We have seen so much positive progress from these projects where the ecosystem has been restored while the community has become more aware of the pressing problems. Apart from supporting public policy and saving nature as long-term goal, we also encourage change at individual level. Last year on World Oceans Day, Singha Estate introduced the #SeaYouTomorrow campaign to promote the reduction of plastic usage, adopt appropriate waste disposal and providing more options for plastic consumption such as, canvas totes and other reusable containers. This 2019, Singha Estate has just unveiled its mission for #SeaYouTomorrow: The Future of The Ocean is in Your Hands, which proves that business can collaborate with communities to preserve the environment and reach Singha Estate sustainability goal.”

Dr. Songtam Suksawang, Director, Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation stated “We want to cultivate environmental consciousness among local communities and encourage everyone to be responsible for the management of their own resources to restore the balance of our ecosystem as well as to preserve its biodiversity. More importantly, the department cannot accomplish its mission alone rather, it needs collaboration from every sector. Singha Estate’s projects in Hat Noppharat Thara - Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park proves that the private sector plays an important role in supporting governmental offices by using practical approaches such as, providing mooring buoys to moor visitors vessels instead of anchoring them, which would damage the coral reefs; providing patrol boats for park officers to improve operation efficiency; contributing to the research on zooxanthellae and the restoration of bleached corals and not least, raising environmental awareness and providing useful information for tourists. Such initiatives can help foster more cooperation between public and private sector to preserve natural resources. We believe that all sectors will become more conscious of serious environmental threats and will work together in synergy to reach more results.”
Asst. Prof. Dr. Thon Thamrongnawasawat, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Fisheries at Kasetsart University, said “The Phi Phi Model is recognized as the national coral reef restoration plan under the umbrella of the national natural resources and environmental reform master plan whose impact has already been recognized. Recently, aged corals have started to bleach off, a very serious environmental concern which needs immediate address. Coral reefs contain the most diverse ecosystems, they are home and shelter to diverse aquatic species and they provide food to humankind. This means, the coral concern is going to have more impact than most people think.
In the past 3-4 years, I have involved in several Singha Estate projects, and I have witnessed an improvement in the marine ecosystem together with the benefits brought to local communities. We need more pioneers to work with government offices towards reaching environment sustainably.”
This year World Oceans Day on June 8, Singha Estate unveiled the campaign “SeaYouTomorrow: The Future is in your hands” in line with our agenda which foresees sustainability as integral part of our business.
